Alex Soros Criticized as Unfit Successor in Scathing New York Magazine Profile

New York, NY — A recently published New York Magazine profile has cast serious doubts on Alex Soros’ leadership of the Open Society Foundations (OSF), portraying the billionaire heir as the “wrong person” to inherit the role from his father, George Soros.

The article, authored by Simon van Zuylen-Wood, includes quotes from unnamed insiders with longstanding ties to OSF, some of whom describe Alex as “smart but f**king impossible,” drawing comparisons to fictional characters like Roman Roy from HBO's Succession and even the Prodigal Son from the Bible. One source bluntly stated, “Everyone who knows the family knows Alex was exactly the wrong person to lead the foundation.”

George Soros founded the philanthropic network in the mid-1980s, and after decades at the helm, handed leadership to his 39-year-old son in June 2023. However, the transition has not been smooth, according to the magazine’s sources.

Described in the piece as brooding and cerebral, Alex Soros is portrayed as someone who struggles to communicate clearly and often leans on performative gestures. His social media presence, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), has been criticized for turning political engagement into a form of self-promotion, with his feed filled with photos alongside world leaders and Democratic figures.

Alex has hosted high-profile fundraisers — including one during the 2024 election cycle for vice presidential candidate Tim Walz — but insiders claim these events have at times created more public relations issues than political impact. Critics cited his tendency to post images from such events online as a recurring problem.

Despite the massive fortune at his disposal, the profile raises concerns about Alex’s direction and strategy. Van Zuylen-Wood notes that while Soros is positioned at the center of liberal politics, he offers “no coherent agenda” and leaves questions about how he intends to wield his influence, especially in an era of rising political volatility.

Past reporting has also scrutinized his political activity, including donations exceeding $5 million to Democratic causes and his public stances on controversial issues, from the Electoral College to sex work.

With so much at stake, the profile ends on a critical note: “That money could help determine the fate not only of a rudderless Democratic Party but of a country... taking aim at the very open society his father’s global philanthropy exists to uphold.”

The Open Society Foundations declined to comment when contacted by Fox News Digital.
