Border Police officers arrested a man from Gaza in his 20s on Thursday after he allegedly attempted to carry out a knife attack at the Qalandiya checkpoint, north of Jerusalem.
Police said the suspect was approaching the crossing on foot when officers noticed his behavior and became suspicious. As they moved in to question him, he reportedly pulled out a knife. Officers quickly subdued and disarmed him before taking him into custody. No officers were injured, and the knife was confiscated. Security operations at the checkpoint continued without interruption.
In a separate operation, IDF forces arrested five suspected terrorists in the city of Qalqilya on allegations of involvement in terror-related activities, according to Walla News. On Wednesday, police also apprehended a resident of Tulkarm accused of planning an attack within Israel. The suspect was arrested at a construction site in Ra’anana after a coordinated search involving both ground units and aerial surveillance that lasted more than an hour.
Authorities also carried out a large-scale sweep in Nazareth on Tuesday, targeting illegal residents from Gaza. Border Police and Israel Police officers searched multiple buildings, detaining 42 Palestinians.
According to police, 28 of the illegal residents were discovered in a single building along with a large quantity of goods. Another 11 were found hiding in an apartment, while three more were located in a separate apartment. Preliminary investigations confirmed that all detainees originated from Gaza.
Security officials say the arrests are part of an ongoing nationwide effort to thwart potential terror threats and prevent illegal entry.
