Shin Bet Director Ronen Bar to Step Down on June 15, 2025, After 35 Years of Service

Ronen Bar, head of the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency), has officially announced that he will step down from his position on June 15, 2025, concluding a 35-year career in Israel’s internal security. The announcement was made during a memorial ceremony honoring fallen Shin Bet personnel at the agency’s headquarters.

Bar, who had previously expressed his intention to resign, chose this symbolic occasion—“a night that represents remembrance, heroism, and sacrifice”—to publicly confirm the date of his departure.

“After 35 years of service, and in order to enable an orderly appointment process and a proper handover, I will conclude my role on June 15, 2025,” he stated.

Reflecting on the events of October 7, Bar emphasized that every public servant who failed to provide full protection must “bow their heads humbly before the murdered, the fallen, the wounded, the hostages, and their families—and act accordingly.”

“My love for the homeland and loyalty to the state have been the foundation of every professional decision I have made—and that holds true tonight as well,” he said.

Bar also called for institutional safeguards to ensure future Shin Bet leaders can perform their roles effectively. “The country must draw a clear line between trust and loyalty,” he warned.

Regarding the ongoing proceedings in the High Court of Justice, Bar clarified that the issue is not about him personally but rather about preserving “the future independence of Shin Bet chiefs.”

“Of course, I am prepared to take part in any process the court deems necessary to secure that future,” he concluded.
