Israeli Military Operation in Gaza Intensifies Amid Humanitarian Crisis

As of July 28, 2025, Israeli forces have escalated their military operations in the Gaza Strip, resulting in significant casualties and raising international concerns. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, at least 98 individuals were killed in the latest airstrikes, including 25 at humanitarian aid distribution points. This brings the total number of deaths at such sites to 1,157 since the onset of the current conflict. Overall, the death toll in Gaza has reached 59,921 since Israel commenced its offensive following Hamas's attacks on October 7, 2023.

In response to the escalating situation, U.S. President Donald Trump, during a conference in Scotland with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, acknowledged the reality of starvation in Gaza, contradicting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's previous statements denying such conditions. President Trump expressed concern over images of malnourished children and announced a contribution of $60 million for food assistance, emphasizing the need for humanitarian aid to reach those in need.

Meanwhile, Israeli human rights organizations B'Tselem and Physicians for Human Rights Israel have accused the Israeli government of committing acts they consider to be genocide in Gaza, citing the scale of civilian casualties and the destruction of infrastructure.

Amid these developments, Israel is reportedly considering a plan to gradually annex parts of Gaza if Hamas does not agree to a ceasefire. The plan, which is said to have received approval from the Trump administration, would involve annexing the buffer zone and northern Gaza. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu is expected to present the plan to Israel's security cabinet soon.

The international community continues to call for an immediate ceasefire and increased humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of civilians caught in the conflict. However, diplomatic efforts to reach a ceasefire have so far stalled, and the situation remains dire.
