Over 1,000 Bibles Reach Prison in Honduras: God's Word Transforms Lives Behind Bars

June 5, 2025

A Christian ministry distributed more than 1,000 Bibles in a prison in Honduras, bringing hope to a place marked by violence and despair. The effort was led by Reverend Jason Woolford of Mission Cry, who organized a special worship service in the prison yard.

During the event, inmates received their own personal copy of the Bible and participated in praise songs, showing gratitude and emotion for the visit. “It was so beautiful. As the team was leaving, many of the inmates shook hands and thanked them for coming,” said Woolford.

This distribution was only possible thanks to the permission of prison authorities, who allowed the missionaries to enter despite not necessarily sharing their faith. Woolford noted that similar experiences are happening in other countries such as Africa and the Philippines, where prison directors are opening the doors to the Gospel.

The Bible given to the inmates is a special Spanish edition containing the New Testament, a discipleship program, and study resources for inmates. “It’s a strategic Bible, designed to impact lives and offered completely free of charge,” Woolford explained.

Mission Cry has been distributing Bibles and Christian books for decades to people who lack access to God’s Word, equipping evangelists, pastors, and new believers in more than 179 countries. The organization believes that the Word of God has the power to transform lives and restore families—even behind bars.

These types of initiatives reflect the biblical mandate to take the Gospel to everyone, regardless of their circumstances. The Bible teaches that God’s Word never returns void and can change hearts anywhere.

As Christians, we must pray for the incarcerated and support initiatives that bring hope and redemption to places of darkness. Faith in Christ offers forgiveness, purpose, and a new beginning—no matter a person’s past.

The distribution of Bibles in prisons is a seed of hope. The Gospel continues to break chains and show that even behind bars, God can transform hearts and write new stories of life.
